By Douglas W. Phillips April 17, 2007 Today, the nation mourns the senseless murder of thirty-two men and women who were gunned down in cold blood. The slaughter of students at Virginia Tech constitutes the largest campus killing spree in American history. The murderer was a fellow student, twenty-three-year-old Cho Seung-hui of South Korea. Though little is currently known of his motive behind the murders, it is clear that his plan was calculated and carefully executed. The assault was premeditated and thorough. Doctors report that not a single victim had fewer than three bullet wounds. Thousands will be deeply affected, probably for the rest of their lives. The most serious pains belong to the mothers, fathers, and sisters and brothers of the murdered victims. What shall we say to them? What are we to learn from these events? First, we must remember the answer to the question “why?”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)–Much is being done and more can be done to protect children from sexual predators within Southern Baptist churches, but an ABC News “20/20″ segment on the issue April 13 amounted to “yellow journalism,” SBC President Frank Page says.

Welcome to The Barna Group!

Research Shows Parenting Approach Determines Whether Children Become Devoted Christians April 9, 2007 (Ventura, CA) - George Barna has released a new book on a familiar topic, based on an unusual research study that indicates that there are six critical dimensions involved in raising children to become spiritual champions. In a newly published study on raising children, entitled Revolutionary Parenting, the renowned research expert serves up the latest in a long line of books that have been written on the topic. Barna noted that there are so many books on the subject that it would require releasing ten new books about parenting every day of the year for each of the next 21 years to equal the total number of volumes already available!

SermonCentral.com: Aubrey Malphurs on A New Kind of Church: Should we be concerned?

A New Kind of Church: Should We Be concerned? by Aubrey Malphurs I suspect that you as pastors and church leaders won’t be surprised when I say that the new-model churches aren’t without their critics, mostly from those who make up the ranks of established, traditional churches. That’s to be expected, as change comes hard for established, tradition-minded people. However, they also consist of people within and outside new paradigm churches themselves. And some critics are well-known Bible teachers and pastors with a national reputation. Some have come down very hard on the new models and even challenge their orthodoxy. It’s imperative that we as leaders pay attention to what they’re saying as no one is above error. None of us must be so protective of our churches that we overlook false teaching of any kind. To do so is to violate Scripture. Also, there are numerous warnings throughout the Scriptures against false teachers who promote and practice false teaching

Washing Feet Endangers Students, School Says — 03/23/2007

Washing Feet Endangers Students, School Says — 03/23/2007

CNSNews.com) - If Jesus washed his disciples’ feet at a Georgia college in 2007, he’d likely be accused of “hazing.” That’s the position a Christian ministry at Savannah State University has found itself in, after it washed the feet of its new members. The campus ministry Commissioned II Love (C2L) was also accused of “harassing” students by sharing their faith. Washing of feet is a symbolic gesture of servitude in the Christian faith, following the example of Jesus, who washed the disciples’ feet during their last meal before his crucifixion, as recounted in the New Testament gospel of John (13:1-17).

Guarding Our Daughters’ Moral Purity
A nervous father interviews his daughter’s date.
by Dennis Rainey
I was seated at my desk, barely able to concentrate. I shifted papers, opened drawers, glanced out the window. Shifted papers, opened drawers, glanced out the window. Shifted papers … I felt like I was expecting an important phone call and was just trying to do something, anything, productive while waiting. But it wasn’t working.

Neither was I.

Battling Lust
Guys and girls struggle in different ways, but each can help the other in the daily fight.
by Joshua Harris
A major misconception about men is that their problem with lust is much worse and more serious than any woman’s could be. In other words, that men are monsters while women are innocent and pure.
